Raf's artwork is inspired by the old masters. He's fascinated by the way a 500 year old portrait can somehow capture a soul in paint on canvas. It may be the closest thing there is to immortality.

In the current age of AI and digital everything there is something even more urgent and magical about the experience of standing face to face with a painting. The visceral, mystical experience of viewing a physical oil painting can never truly be captured in a photo or on a screen and that makes paintings more important than they've ever been before.

Raf was born in Boston, raised on a farm in Ohio, studied acting at Brown University. In the 1990s his crayon on cardboard drawings were exhibited and sold around the world, collected in museums, and displayed in prestigious galleries in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City. He did record covers and commissions for Hollywood luminaries.

Then Raf took a fork in the road and started writing TV shows. He had the great pleasure of writing and producing with some wonderful collaborators. One of his favorites was GENIUS: PICASSO, a ten episode series on the life of Picasso starring Antonio Banderas.

But after 25 years working in TV, Raf has come back to making pictures. He loved crayons on cardboard because they looked like oil paintings, so this time he's decided just to go for it... and start oil painting.

Most of Raf's old crayon work has already been sold, but his oil paintings are available for purchase. He also loves doing paintings on commission.
